Retired Calif. officer accidentally shoots self

The Vallejo Times-Herald

VALLEJO, Calif. — A retired Vallejo police officer accidentally shot himself in the leg at his home in Vacaville on Friday, police said.

At about 4:15 p.m., Vacaville police were called to a resident on Copper School Road and found a man with a .45 caliber gunshot wound to his right leg, police said.

Further investigation revealed the retired officer had accidentally fired the gun while attempting to put it into its holster, police said.

A friend of the victim was reportedly in the living room when the shooting occurred and witnessed the accident, police reported.

The victim, who was not identified, was taken to UC Davis Medical Center.
